¿Cómo ha resultado su evolución tras las intervenciones que tuvo en octubre?
La primera etapa siempre es dura después de salir del quirófano, parece que los dolores no se acaban y la musculatura en parte se te atrofia. Esa etapa fue de aproximadamente seis semanas. Pero ahora ya es distinto. Estoy en la última fase, entrenando duro en la pista y en el gimnasio y en unos días espero estar al ciento por ciento.
¿Cuál es la sensación de iniciar la temporada en Chile?
Lo normal es comenzar en Australia, pero la temporada es muy larga y no pasa nada por empezar en febrero. Además me hace mucha ilusión ir por primera vez a jugar el torneo de Chile. Desde hace tiempo quería hacerlo. Decidí no ir a Australia porque quiero reaparecer estando al ciento por ciento y espero conseguirlo durante la próxima semana.
¿Qué lo motivó a jugar por primera vez el ATP de Santiago?
Es un torneo que no he jugado nunca en un país que siempre ha tenido y tiene grandes tenistas. Además, tengo muy buena relación desde hace años con el director del torneo (Alvaro Fillol). Me gustaría hacerlo bien en Chile.
Junto a David Nalbandian y Juan Mónaco encabezan el cuadro...
Ambos son muy buenos jugadores, pero además hay otros que en tierra son de los mejores del mundo. Es un cuadro muy atractivo y creo que se verá un gran nivel.
Fernando González no jugará por lesión. ¿Cómo ve su futuro, tomando en cuenta su operación a la cadera?
Yo creo que todo va a depender de su ilusión por seguir unos años más en esta actividad.
¿Pero lo ve con opciones de retornar a la elite del tenis?
Tiene calidad más que suficiente para volver a estar arriba, entre los mejores. Espero verle pronto para ver como está. Y también espero encontrármelo en los torneos en algunos años más. Le deseo mucha suerte.
